MEADVILLE — Two fourth-quarter touchdowns were the difference as Franklin County lost a close game to Clarksdale 28-20 Friday night.

Franklin County (2-2) led 20-14 at the end of the third, but a controversial call led to the go-ahead touchdown for Clarksdale (2-2).

“Clarksdale broke about a 40- to 45-yard run, and they threw a flag for a holding call,” Bulldogs head coach Rickey O’Quinn said. “They picked up the flag and gave them the ball inside the 10, and they scored two plays later.”

“Our kids never rebounded after (the go-ahead touchdown),” O’Quinn said.

Franklin County scored first on a 2-yard run by Troy Norman with 4:29 left in the first quarter. Clarksdale took the lead 7-6 after a Joey Jefferson 31-yard touchdown catch with 6:12 to go in the second.

A 26-yard touchdown run by Franklin County’s Chris Robinson gave the Bulldogs a 12-7 lead at intermission.

Clarksdale again took the lead 14-12 in the third quarter on a 68-yard reception by Jefferson. A 27-yard carry by Robinson with 2:50 left in the third put Franklin County ahead 20-14 going into the fourth.

Franklin County will play Amite County next Friday.
