NATCHEZ — A Natchez man has been arrested and charged with two counts of burglary of a business after burglarizing Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen on D’Evereux Drive and Natchez Steam Laundry on Main Street, Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said Tuesday.

D’Andre R. Thomas, 18, 308 S. Dumas Drive, allegedly entered Popeye’s and took money from the cash box on Monday. Mullins said a Popeye’s employee said she arrived at the business at 5:30 a.m. and noticed a damaged window and a small amount of cash missing from the cash box.

Mullins said officers responded to alarm at Natchez Steam Laundry at 3:25 a.m. on Wednesday and found Thomas in the business armed with a handgun. Mullins said Thomas complied with officers when they instructed him to put down his weapon. Mullins said Thomas was taken into custody and charged with burglary. Mullins said upon further investigation by Natchez Police Department, Thomas was charged with burglary of a business in connection with the burglary at Popeye’s.
