NATCHEZ — Services for Spencer Sylvester, 87, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Quinn officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at the church with a wake to follow with Masonic rites from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Sylvester was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Natchez.
Survivors include his wife, Florida Mazique Sylvester; three sons, James Mazique of Fort Wayne, Ind., Spencer Sylvester III and wife, Terri, and Tyrone Sylvester, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; five daughters, Mary McDougle and husband, John, and Marilyn Parnell and husband, Richard, all of Jackson, Estelle Knight and husband, Richard, of Natchez, Oretha Witcher and husband, Andrew, and Brenda Johnson, all of Jacksonville; one brother, Ernest Woods Sr.; one sister, Julia Henry, both of Natchez; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
