Ben Hillyer/The Natchez Democrat — Wilmar Construction’s Wesley Pendleton nails together the wood frame for the St. Mary Family Life Center on the corner of Main and Rankin streets. The $2.2 million addition is expected to be complete in July. In addition to the youth center, the Family Life Center will also include an assembly area that would seat 350-400 people and a couple of meeting zones, as well as a nursery space. Due to the size of the building and the amenities it would be equipped with, like showers, for example, the church hopes the space could be used in a time of crisis, such as a hurricane or ice storm, if the need were to arise.

With St. Mary Basilica framed in the center window, the exterior form of the church’s Family Life Center is beginning to take shape.
