FERRIDAY — Services for George Allen Byrnes, 77, of Ridgecrest, who died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, in Ridgecrest, will be at 2 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday with the Rev. Bo Harris officiating.

Burial will follow at Carraway Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Mr. Byrnes was born July 27, 1934, in Fort Necessity, the son of Billy Hobbgood Byrnes and Frances Idell Byrnes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepson, Billy Baker; one brother, Lee Byrnes; and one sister, Marie Whittington.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Patsy Byrnes; two sons, George A. Byrnes Jr. and wife, Janet, of Ferriday and Brian A. Brynes; one stepson, David Baker of Ridgecrest; three daughters, Peggy Merrill and husband, Randy, of Monterey, Georgia Cavin and husband, Butch, of Helena, Ark., and Judy Bordelon and husband, G.B., of St. Francisville, La.; two brothers, Buddy Byrnes of Clayton and Vernon Byrnes and wife, Margie, of Natchez; one sister, Gloria “Nell” Polk and husband, Larry, of Winnsboro, La.; four grandsons, Dusty Edwards, Brandon Bordelon, Brian Szolis and Chance Szolis; two step-grandsons, Hunter Baker and Matthew Fontenot; five granddaughters, Tonya Edwards, Jeannie Merrill, Lacy Merrill, Desiree Szolis and Cassey Byrnes; two step-granddaughters, Lacy Baker and Kyndal Fontenot; two great-granddaughters, Haydon Grace Webb and Madison Paige Webb; and one step-great-granddaughter, Katlyn Baker.

Pallbearers will be Dusty Edwards, Brandon Bordelon, Matthew Fontenot, Chance Szolis, Brian Szolis, Shae Easterling, Darrell Whittington and Chad Maples.

Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Wigginton, Jay Curtis, Pete Whittington and Ronald Whittington.
