WOODVILLE — Wilkinson County Christian Academy cruised to victory in its last two games, winning by a combined score of 95-7.

This week the Rams tallied a win that was even easier than their previous two, and they didn’t even have to wait until game time Friday.

WCCA was scheduled to play Union Christian Academy from Farmerville, La., Friday, but Union Christian forfeited Tuesday afternoon due to a lack of healthy players, WCCA coach Ray McDaniel said.

“Union Christian called (Tuesday) afternoon, and said they had so many players injured that they don’t have enough players able to dress out and play,” McDaniel said.

“I was kind of stunned. This is the first time I’ve ever been a part of anything like that.”

The win puts WCCA at 7-1 on the season and 4-0 in the MAIS A South Central division.

McDaniel said the win puts his team one step closer to qualifying for the playoffs, and his team continues to feed off its wins.

“Our kids have a lot of confidence and every week it seems to grow more and more,” McDaniel said.

With no game this Friday, McDaniel said he plans on treating the rest of the week like an off week.

“We want to improve on what we do, and we are looking forward to next week’s game against Tallulah (Academy),” he said.

WCCA will host Tallulah Oct. 14.

Centreville versus Columbia

CENTREVILLE — The Centreville football team is riding high this week after four consecutive wins, and the Tigers look to continue their streak Friday when they host Columbia Academy for homecoming.

“We’ve been playing good lately,” assistant coach Brian Stutzman said. “We want to continue to play good and hopefully we will have a big crowd for homecoming and can show some people we have a good team. I’m extremely pleased. We have everything clicking offensively and defensively. We’re just hoping to keep on a roll.”

Friday’s contest will be Centreville’s final tune up before they finish the season with three MAIS District 6-AA games.

Stutzman said Columbia would provide a physical test for the Tigers Friday.

“I know they run the ball hard and play tough defense,” he said. “We definitely just want to stop them from running on us. They are going to try for some big plays and we have to be awake.”

Stutzman said Columbia is not afraid to use surprise onside kicks and trick plays to try to win games, and Centreville will have to be ready.

The Tigers have struggled with penalties recently, Stutzman said, and they will have to focus on discipline and ball protection this week.

“The difference (in the game) will be turnovers, penalties and mistakes,” he said. “We can’t jump offside or hold behind the play. We had over 100 yards in penalties last week versus Adams County (Christian), so we are focused on that this week.”

Columbia and Centreville are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. Friday.
