VICKSBURG — Services for Melvin C. Tyler, 63, of Jackson, who died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at Hospice Ministries, Inc., in Ridgeland, will be 11 a.m. today at Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Vicksburg.

Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home in Vicksburg.

Mr. Tyler was born in Vicksburg, the son of Robert White Sr. and Lula J. Williams. He was a 1965 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School and a graduate of Mississippi Valley State University. He was employed by South Central Bell/BellSouth/AT&T Telecommunications with 40 years of service.

Mr. Tyler was a deacon and musician at King Solomon Baptist Church in Vicksburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert White Jr.; and one sister, Suzanne W. Alexander.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Tyler; 12 sisters, Linda Sandles and husband, Thomas, Cherry W. Chatman, Dorothy W. Miles and husband, Louis, Lena W. Craig, Carrie Stewart, Patricia White, Johnnie White, Linda W. Johnson and husband, Johnny, and Gladys Sanders, all of Vicksburg, Ernestine W. Dillard and husband, James, and Sharon W. Jones, all of Chicago, and Lillie Stewart of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Johnny Williams III of Vicksburg and Emmitt Minor and wife, Joann, of Baton Rouge; two aunts, Rebecca Thomas of Chicago and Barbara Tyler Thomas of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one uncle, Anderson White Sr. and wife, Odia Mae; special godparents, Mr. Fred and Mrs. Alyce Shields; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including extended family members from Natchez.
