FERRIDAY — Services for Jean Lauer Milliken, 88, of Ferriday, who died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at her residence, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday with Clyde Ray Webber officiating.
Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Milliken was born Aug. 30, 1923, in Richmond, Mo., the daughter of Earl and Letitia Lauer. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Ferriday,
Mrs. Milliken graduated in nursing from Jewish Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. She served in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps during World War II. She met and married her husband, Tom, while serving in the Army. They moved to Ferriday in 1963. She then went to work for Concordia Parish Hospital and became the first director of nurses and remained there until she retired in 1983.
Mrs. Milliken was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Terry Milliken and her parents.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Lauer Wright; one daughter, Rebecca Milliken Gremillion and husband, Maurice; two sons, Tom Terry Milliken II and wife, Jeanie, and Sean Lauer Milliken; four grandchildren, Jean Maurice Gremillion and wife, Mary Ellen, Ginny Gremillion Thompson and husband, Dustin, Summer Milliken and fiancé, Drew Thompson, and Tom Terry Milliken III and wife, Bridget; one great-grandson, Anders Bennett Milliken; and her special caregivers, Edith Wills and Judy Gibson, both of Brookhaven.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Thompson, Dan Kelly, Drew Thompson, Jean Maurice Gremillion, Pat Quinn, Randy Wright, Robert Clayton and Tom Terry Milliken III.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Gremillion, Dr. Eugene Vogt, Dr. Herman Gibson, Dr. Ron Gregg, Glenn Gremillion, Howard Vogt, Bernard Cole and Richard Alwood.
