NATCHEZ — A Natchez man has been charged with murder and attempted robbery in connection with the Friday night shooting death on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. and St. Catherine streets.

Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said Davarious J. Clemons, 19, 224 Oakland Drive, was arrested Monday on charges of murder.

Cedric M. Morgan, 30, 29 Fredrick Circle, was found dead in his car early Saturday morning with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Clemons allegedly attempted to rob Morgan. Morgan refused to give Clemons money and was attempting to flee when Clemons reportedly fired a shot into Morgan’s vehicle.

Morgan’s wife, who sat in the passenger seat during the incident, called police to report the shooting.

Morgan’s murder is the third inside city limits in two months.

Authorities are working to recover the murder weapon and other physical evidence, Mullins said, and are presently interviewing people who may have knowledge about the shooting.

No bond has been set for Clemons until his arraignment, which Mullins said will likely be today or Wednesday.

Mullins said anyone with information about the shooting should call Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.
