BROOKHAVEN – Services for Samuel Howard Barfoot, 85, of Brookhaven, who died Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, in Brookhaven, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Damascus Baptist Church in Franklin County with the Rev. Howard Smith and the Rev. Kent Cochran officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday, both at the church.

Mr. Barfoot was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Quentin, the son of Sam and Estelle Griffing Barfoot.

He was a good husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his five children, Kenneth Barfoot and wife, Nancy, of Brandon, Joy Barfoot Arnold and husband, Acy, of Brookhaven, Janice B. Summit and husband, Bill, of Sheridan, Ark., Missy B. Gilliat and husband, Rob, of Natchez and Keith Barfoot and wife, Tammy, of Monterey; 16 grandchildren, Richard Freeman, Renee Freeman Tribble, Stephen Barfoot, Jason Summit, Brandi Summit, Chad Barfoot, Beau Barfoot, Mikel Aswell, Jennifer Mills, Cory Mills, Misty Barfoot Graning, Neal Arnold, Bryan Arnold, Charlotte Cooper, Helen Redfern and Simon Gilliat; 18 great-grandchildren; Caitlin Freeman, Josie Higgins, Megan Burr, Brittany Burr, Charles Brady Barfoot, Kelly Rayburn, Dalton Samuel Summit, Erin Elizabeth Summit, C.J. Barfoot, Bella Barfoot, Colby Barfoot, Rylan Barfoot, Jash Karabelen, Jace Cooper, Tyler Redfern, Bethany Redfern and Robyn Redfern and Lexi Gilliat; one brother, Thomas Barfoot of Lucien; and one sister, Willie Nell White of Oak Grove, La.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Barfoot, Jason Summit, Chad Barfoot, Jash Karabelen, Renee Tribble and Jennifer Mills.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Freeman, Beau Barfoot, Cory Mills and Bryan Arnold.
