Trinity Episcopal gets second district win

COLUMBIA — Tip McKenzie tallied three touchdowns for Trinity Episcopal as the Saints cruised past District 5-AA opponent Columbia Academy 42-15 Friday night.
Tip McKenzie took the opening kickoff back 93 yards for the first touchdown of the night. Tip’s brother Trae McKenzie scored next for the Saints, catching a 3-yard pass from quarterback Scott Turner with 5:01 to go in the first.
In the second quarter, Tip scored the next two touchdowns, one on a 55-yard reception and another on a 39-yard run. The Saints led 28-0 at the half.
Columbia Academy got on the board with 1:03 left in the third on a 5-yard run by Garrett Magee. Jake Winston caught a 4-yard touchdown pass with 14 seconds left for Trinity to give the Saints a 35-8 lead after three.
Trey Fleming tallied the Saints’ final touchdown of the night on a 49-yard touchdown reception with 7:20 left in the third. Columbia’s Nic Parker scored on a 3-yard run with 2:31 left in regulation.
The Saints had 131 yards rushing and 237 yards passing, and Turner was 13 of 22 in passing.
Trinity (9-1, 2-0) will host Brookhaven Academy next Friday to determine which team will be the District 5-AA champions.
