VIDALIA — Vidalia faced a district giant in Avoyelles and didn’t come away unscathed.

Already going through a frustrating season, it did not get any easier for the Vikings as they lost to an Avoyelles Mustangs team that surprisingly is not ranked 56-20 Friday night in an LHSAA District 3-3A game. The Vikings remain winless this season.

This was just the third time in its eight games in 2011 that Vidalia (0-8, 0-3) has scored in double digits and only the second time the Vikings scored 20 points. Avoyelles (8-0, 3-0) led 56-12 at halftime.

Block 42, Montgomery 6

MONTGOMERY, La. — VaShawn Davis and Davonte Vault combined for 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns as the Block Bears dismantled the Montgomery Tigers in LHSAA District 4-1A action Friday night.

Davis led Block’s rushing attack with 233 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries while Vault had 10 carries for 178 yards, including touchdown runs of 50 and 57 yards early in the second quarter.

Davis scored on a 33-yard run late in the first quarter, a 10-yard run right before halftime and an 8-yard run early in the third quarter. William Cummings scored on a 40-yard run in the third quarter.

What was interesting about this game, at least from Block’s perspective, was that the Bears had as many penalties as first downs — nine each. They were penalized nine times for 95 yards. And even though the score was lopsided and Block had 481 total rushing yards, it also put the ball on the ground four times with Montgomery (2-6, 1-2) recovering three of those fumbles.

Block (4-4, 2-0) hosts third-ranked St. Mary’s of Natchitoches, La. next Friday at 7 p.m. in a key district game for both teams.
