FAYETTE — The East Feliciana (La.) Lady Tigers were simply no match for the Jefferson County Lady Tigers Saturday night at the Jefferson County High Basketball Classic.

Brandy Buck scored a game-high 20 points ‚ almost as many as East Feliciana had as a team — and Haley Turner added 15 points as Jefferson County cruised to an emphatic 74-26 win over East Feliciana.

Keionne January chipped in with nine points for Jefferson County (1-0). And that was the same number of points Stephanie Weber had as East Feliciana’s top scorer in the game.

Jefferson County does not play again until Tuesday, Nov. 15 when it goes to Tylertown.

Natchez High girls 54,

Wingfield 31

FAYETTE — Kiara Johnson scored a game-high 13 points and Ashley Minor had 11 points as the Natchez High Lady Bulldogs opened up their season with a 23-point win over the Wingfield Lady Falcons.

Keyana Miller and Rashonae Rice each had nine points for Natchez High (1-0). Kynesha Alexander and Azonde Collier scored six points each to lead Wingfield.

The Lady Bulldogs travel to Vicksburg to take on Warren Central Tuesday night.

Wilkinson County girls 56, Brookhaven 55

FAYETTE — The Wilkinson County Lady Wildcats started their season with a one-point win over the Brookhaven Lady Panthers Saturday afternoon at the Jefferson County High Basketball Classic.

Brookhaven appeared well on its way to an easy win after taking a 32-24 lead at halftime. However, Wilkinson County had other ideas. The Lady Wildcats rallied for the stunning win by outscoring the Lady Panthers 32-23 in the second half.

The Lady Wildcats (1-0) will look to stay undefeated when they play at McComb Tuesday night.

Jefferson County boys 59, East Feliciana (La.) 49

FAYETTE — Trailing by six points at halftime, Jefferson County turned to its defense to put pressure on East Feliciana. The strategy worked as the host Tigers rallied to defeat the visiting Tigers in the finale of the Jefferson County High Basketball Classic.

Jamel Anderson ended up scoring a game-high 23 points and Nichol Brown chipped in with 17 points for Jefferson County, which trailed 30-24 at halftime before outscoring East Feliciana 35-19 in the second half.

Nicholas Keller led East Feliciana with 12 points and Justin Turner added 10 points.

Jefferson County (1-0) next plays at Tylertown on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Brookhaven boys 72,

Wilkinson County 36

FAYETTE — The Brookhaven Panthers had too much talent and too much depth for Wilkinson County to hang with as they doubled up the Wildcats Saturday afternoon at the Jefferson County High Basketball Classic.

Led by C. Rancifer and G. Buie, Brookhaven took a 34-21 lead at halftime and then took it to Wilkinson County on both ends of the court in the second half. The Panthers scored 38 points over the second 16-minute half while the Wildcats managed just 15 points.

Wilkinson County (0-1) will look for its first win of the season when the Wildcats visit McComb Tuesday night.

With the Wildcats’ football team hosting Seminary in the second round of the Class 3A South State Playoffs Friday night, the basketball teams’ home opener against Natchez High will take place on either Thursday or Saturday, head coach Ronald Hines said.

Scott Central girls 60,

Franklin County 53

TAYLORSVILLE — Victoria Vivians may be just a sophomore, but the 6-0 forward proved why she is one of the best players in the state as she scored a game-high 38 points to lead the Scott Central Lady Rebels past the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs Saturday night at the Taylorsville Lady Tartar Hoops for Hope Classic.

Kierra Collins kept the Lady Bulldogs in the game by scoring 18 of her team-high 31 points in the first half. They outscored the Lady Rebels 16-15 in the second quarter to trail 31-24 at halftime.

The Lady Bulldogs cut the Lady Rebels to three points in the fourth quarter thanks to their press defense, but were unable to get any closer than that.

Collins was the only player in double figures for Franklin County (0-1). Keana Wash added 12 points for Scott Central (1-0).

Franklin County is scheduled to play at Amite County on Friday night, but that will probably be reschedule with the Bulldogs’ football team still in the Class 3A South State Playoffs.
