Good news wipes away Monday blues

Got a case of the Mondays? Just dig through that bowl of leftover Halloween candy and remember the fun last week brought as you anticipate Tuesday’s elections.
Can’t remember much of last week? We’ll help.
– Parents and children alike started off the week in costume as they trick or treated at Trick or Treat for Little Feet in downtown Natchez and at a number of area church festivals. We are happy so many people work hard to offer a safe place for children.
– Sales tax collections in the City of Natchez are showing some improvement over last year. The year is on track to be better than 2010, and those small steps toward a better local economy are definitely good news.
– Cathedral School students Kandice Bailey and Cody Bradford have inspired us by their effort to dream up and carry out a walk for the poor later today. The students are hoping to raise $500 for the Stewpot and Sunshine Children’s Shelter. These students make us proud, and we are also glad to hear that a Cathedral teacher has assigned the students to get involved in the community. We can’t think of a better way to learn.
– Holy Family Catholic School celebrated its annual fall festival Saturday with games and good food. This school has been a hidden gem in Natchez for decades, and we are glad they are around.
– Patti Reed Morris is again heading up a local effort to brighten the days of soldiers overseas. Morris has collected shipping boxes and is distributing them to community members interested in filling a box. The boxes — filled with goodies from the South — will then be shipped to our soldiers in service. Boxes are available by calling the Concordia Chamber at 318-336-8223.
Feeling ready for the week yet? We sure hope so; it’s bound to be full of good news.
