Dearing’s service is appreciated

Adams County, and all of Southwest Mississippi, will say goodbye to 30 years of experience in January, and, politics aside, we all know experience is invaluable.

Sen. Bob Dearing has represented our area faithfully for three decades.

He has given up personal and family time to drive back and forth to Jackson for legislative sessions and meetings.

He has taken criticism with a smile.

And he has been a part of legislation that will benefit thousands of Mississippians for years to come.

Few public servants can look back on 30 years of dedication to the same constituency, and we hope Sen. Dearing knows that his work has been appreciated.

As a fixture in our local political scene, Sen. Dearing won’t soon be forgotten.

But perhaps what will stay in the minds of his voters — and even those who didn’t support him — the longest may be Sen. Dearing’s kind heart and easygoing, respectful spirit.

Sen. Dearing has represented us like we’d all like to be represented — with calm patience, a cool voice and a love for his constituency.

In a day and age when too many politicians are remembered by uncouth outbursts, negative mudslinging and selfish demeanors, Sen. Dearing stands apart.

For that, and for your decades of service, we say thanks, Bob M.
