NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman has been charged with aggravated assault after reportedly stabbing her 20-year-old nephew in the head with a knife during an argument Saturday night.

Natchez Interim Police Chief Danny White said Tara D. Mitchell, 42, 115 North St., allegedly confronted Tony Long about a prior argument with another family member and then assaulted him.

White said Mitchell, Long and another family member were arguing in the bathroom of Long’s grandmother’s house on North Street. Long left the bathroom, and Mitchell followed him to the kitchen where she pulled a handgun from her purse, threatened Long and then hit him in the face with the gun.

Mitchell and Long then had a physical altercation, and Mitchell stabbed Long in the head and attempted to stab him in the stomach with another knife.

Family members broke up the fight, and Long drove himself to Natchez Regional Hospital. White said Long received approximately four staples in his head and was released from the hospital.

Mitchell is being held without bond until arraignment and is facing up 20 years in prison.
