No soccer today

NATCHEZ — The boys’ soccer games between Cathedral and Adams County Christian School were supposed to be a junior varsity scrimmage scheduled for today and a varsity scrimmage on Saturday.
At least that is what Cathedral soccer coach Dennis Hogue thought. But ACCS soccer coach Jimmy Allgood said the two schools would possibly play a doubleheader this afternoon at Bobby Marks Stadium on the ACCS campus with the varsity game first followed by the JV game.
Then the Rebels and the Green Wave would play each other again at D’Evereux Stadium at Cathedral beginning Saturday morning with the same format.
Now, there has been a change of plans. Due to the inclement weather that hit the Miss-Lou late Tuesday morning and into the early afternoon hours, Allgood announced that the games that were scheduled to take place today have been canceled.
Which probably turned out to be a good thing for Cathedral for several reasons.
“Some of my varsity is out of town for the holiday. Two of them went to see family in Texas. One had a wisdom tooth cut out Monday. Another rolled his ankle in the Lawrence County game (on Nov. 17) and the doctor advised him to take the week off,” Hogue said.
The Green Wave had only eight varsity players show up for practice Monday afternoon and it was unknown if the varsity team would have enough players to suit up for today’s game, which would have started at 1 p.m. The JV game was set to take place at 3:30 p.m. But now Hogue doesn’t have to worry about all of that.
The ACCS-Cathedral soccer games will still take place as scheduled on Saturday with the varsity game starting at 10 a.m. to be followed by the JV game. However, the Rebels will not host Manchester Academy for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
“Manchester Academy played in a tournament last Saturday and MAIS rules do not allow a team to play on consecutive Saturdays,” Allgood said.
Allgood said that he will not know until Friday which team the varsity and JV Rebels will host Saturday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m.
