VIDALIA — Services for Billy Gene Hammers Sr., 60, of Vidalia, who died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Young’s Funeral Home in Vidalia with Noelle and Denny Read officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hammers was born Oct. 11, 1951, in Bolivar, Tenn., the son of Burton Hammond Hammers and Hattie Myrtle Hammers.

He was retired from Vidalia Police Department as chief of police with 29 years of service. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Hammers; two sons, Billy Hammers Jr. and wife, Trisha, of Aniston, Ala., and Robert Leard and wife, Ginger, of Madison; three daughters, Jennifer Collins and husband, Tommy, of Cameron, N.C., Danna Mooney and husband, Todd, of Natchez and Kayce Rourke and husband, Patrick, of Como; two brothers, Austin Hammers and wife, Betty, of Denham Springs, La., and Jimmy Hammers and wife, Elsie, of Zachery, La.; and 13 grandchildren, Lane Rehms, Ruby Mooney, Lilly Rourke, Taylor Hammers, Alanis Collins, Alyssa Leard, Jonathan Leard, Samantha Leard, Savannah Hammers, Kayleigh Hammers, Austin Hammers, Taylon Hammers and Payton Hammers.

Pallbearers will be members of Vidalia Police Department.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Vidalia Police Department.
