Natchez — A man who was reportedly robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night at a Dumas Drive apartment is a suspect in the burglary of the same apartment later in the night.

Natchez Interim Police Chief Danny White said Montrell Beverly, 27, 101-B Dumas Drive, reported at approximately 9 p.m. he and a group of individuals were gambling on a neighbor’s front porch when a masked man put a shotgun to his head and demanded money.

White said Beverly reportedly gave the man his wallet and $1,900 in cash. White said Beverly was not injured during the robbery.

NPD detective Felesha Fleming, who is assigned to the case, said at approximately 2 a.m., Danielle Graves, 201-B Dumas Drive, reported that her apartment — the location of the robbery — was burglarized sometime after she left at 11 p.m. Graves reported a Sony flatscreen television valued at $1,600 and a Toshiba computer valued at $500 were stolen.

Fleming said Graves reported that she and Beverly had a dispute at her apartment after the robbery and alleges he threatened to come back and steal from her apartment.

Fleming said Beverly is not in custody, but police are investigating his involvement in the burglary.

Beverly was arrested Nov. 6 on charges of simple assault and petit larceny.

White said there are no suspects in the robbery.
