FAYETTE — After going back and forth with Jefferson County for three quarters, Natchez High finally put away the Lady Tigers in the fourth quarter as the Lady Bulldogs took a 73-57 win Friday night.
Neither team was able to get a big lead during the first three quarters of this game. At halftime, Natchez High had a 31-30 lead and at the end of the third quarter, the score was tied at 48-48. The Lady Bulldogs clamped down on defense in the fourth quarter and that led to easy transition baskets. They outscored the Lady Tigers 25-9 in the final quarter.
Ashley Minor led Natchez High (9-2) with 19 points while Keyana Miller scored 16 points and Kiana Jones added 12 points. Jefferson County (3-4) was led by Brandy Buck with a game-high 22 points, followed by Malikia Graves with 16 points with 10 points.
Both teams don’t play again until Friday, Dec. 16. The Lady Bulldogs return to Region 6-6A action at Forest Hill while the Lady Tigers begin Region 7-3A play at Prentiss.
Tensas Academy girls 31, Franklin Academy 29
ST. JOSEPH, La. — Hali Matthews led Tensas Academy with a game-high 14 points as the Lady Chiefs held on for a two-point win over the Franklin Academy Lady Cougars Friday night.
Bailey Keyes scored five points and Katy Irby added four points for Tensas Academy (3-4).
“Irby and Keyes playing JV and varsity, two (quarters) of JV and four (quarters) of varsity, really out there working, makes it harder on us, but that’s all we can do,” Lady Chiefs head coach Nicky Pere’ said. “We only had three players tonight that are exclusively varsity and five eighth-graders.”
The Lady Chiefs play at Riverfield Academy next Monday night.
