Miss-Lou tree keeps adding ornaments

Many ornaments filled the good news tree last week in the Miss-Lou, so let’s review just a few.
– The Chamber of Commerce celebrated another successful year with its annual gala. Three Natchezians and two businesses were honored for their contributions to the community. Congratulations to the winners.
– Forty sheriffs from around Mississippi visited Natchez, but no one was in trouble. The city played host to Mississippi Sheriff’s Association 2011 winter conference.
– A large group of Natchez High School seniors are preparing to graduate with the title of Mississippi Scholar. We are so proud of our local students who have chosen to take tougher classes and participate in community service in order to receive the top honor.
– Adams County Christian School students showed their care last week, even if they are perhaps a bit nuts. The students wore funky clothes, bow ties and crazy socks as part of a school-wide fundraiser for those battling cancer.
– BASF Chemical Company announced plans to expand its Vidalia operation, investing more money in the community and eventually hiring 10 or so more employees.
– Brave ice skaters went home with sore ankles — and maybe a few bruises — this weekend thanks to the Christmas in Natchez committee. A temporary ice skating rink added a somewhat out-of-place attraction to the bluff Saturday and Sunday. The rink was a great addition to the ever-growing Christmas celebration.
As we near Christmas, we know there is room for a few more “good news” ornaments on our community tree.
