JACKSON — Ashley Minor and Keyana Miller did most of the scoring for Natchez High in the Lady Bulldogs’ Region 6-6A game Friday night at fifth-ranked Forest Hill. The Lady Patriots countered with a more balanced attack.

And that proved to be the difference. With four players for Forest Hill scoring in double figures, the Lady Patriots defeated Natchez High 61-45 to keep the Lady Bulldogs winless in region play.

Minor led Natchez High with a game-high 20 points and Miller finished with 10 points. Forest Hill was led by Crystal Baker with 17 points while Claressa Banks and Latoya Collins added 11 points each and Essence Qulliam scored 10 points.

The loss dropped the Lady Bulldogs to 9-3 overall and 0-2 in region play. They will play host to the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs today. And it will be Natchez High’s first home game this season.

Tylertown boys 53,

Franklin County 43

TYLERTOWN — If Franklin County had played as good in the first half as it did in the second half of its game against Tylertown Friday night, the Bulldogs would have ended up with a big road win.

Instead, the Chiefs took it to the Bulldogs in the first two quarters en route to an 11-point halftime lead and they held on for a seven-point win. Tylertown outscored Franklin County 17-9 in the second quarter to take a 28-17 lead. The Chiefs took a 44-30 lead at the end of three quarters. The Bulldogs held the Chiefs to just six points in the fourth quarter, but they weren’t able to score enough points themselves to pull off the upset.

Antony Green led Franklin County (2-7) with a game-high 19 points and Antonio Green added 12 points. The Bulldogs play at Natchez High today.

Jefferson County girls 59,

Prentiss 48

PRENTISS — Haley Turner led Jefferson County with a game-high 19 points and Keionne January had a solid game of her own with 17 points as the Lady Tigers defeated the Prentiss Lady Bulldogs Friday night in their MHSAA Region 7-3A opener.

Jefferson County was up by just one point, 17-16, after one quarter of play. But the second quarter was the turning point of this game as the Lady Tigers outscored Prentiss 18-11 for a 35-27 halftime lead. Even though Jefferson County scored just nine points in the third quarter, so did Prentiss.

Brandy Buck added 14 points for the Lady Tigers (4-4, 1-0), who host longtime rival Port Gibson next Tuesday.

Forest Hill boys 53,

Natchez High 36

JACKSON — Patrick Banks scored 16 points and Quintarius Porter had nine points as Forest Hill used two big quarters to defeat the Natchez High Bulldogs in MHSAA Region 6-6A action Friday night.

Forest Hill jumped out to a 16-6 lead over Natchez High after one quarter of play. But the Bulldogs chipped away at the Patriots’ lead and by the end of the third quarter they trailed 30-23. But the Patriots put a stop to that in a big way as they outscored the Bulldogs 23-13 in the fourth quarter.

Natchez High (5-6, 0-2) was led by Dearius Griffin with 10 points and Derrian Johnson with eight points. The Bulldogs are at home today for the first time this season when they take on Franklin County.

Brookhaven Academy girls 73, ACCS 41

BROOKHAVEN — The Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels went into Friday night’s game against Brookhaven Academy undefeated yet unranked in the Clarion-Ledger’s Class AA girls’ poll. The Lady Cougars, however, were at No. 3 despite already having two losses.

On this night, Brookhaven Academy showed why it is the defending MAIS Overall girls’ champion as Terah Winborne put on a show and tore apart ACCS’s defense to the tune of 37 points as the Lady Cougars routed the Lady Rebels by 32 points.

Brookhaven Academy (13-2) lead ACCS 46-24 at halftime and 63-28 by the end of the third quarter. The Lady Rebels were led by Brandis White with 13 points and Tory Laird had eight points. The Lady Cougars also got 16 points from Destiny Allen.

ACCS (14-1) will once again be on the road when it plays at Centreville Academy today.

Amite School Center girls 30, Tensas Academy 20

ST. JOSEPH, La. — The first quarter of this MAIS District 6-A game was about as ugly as any one quarter has been in a long time. Tensas Academy led at the end of the quarter 3-0.

The rest of the game was controlled by Amite School Center as the Lady Rebels rallied to defeat the Lady Chiefs by 10 points Friday night. And the Lady Rebels have Marlee Touchstone and Ashlee Felder to thank for overcoming that terrible opening quarter. Touchstone finished with a game-high 15 points and Felder added eight points.

Tensas Academy (N/A, 0-1) was led by Melanie Netterville with six points. Bailey Keyes and Katy Irby had five points each. The Lady Chiefs don’t play again until Wednesday, Dec. 28 at Prairie View Academy.

Amite School Center boys 61, Tensas Academy 53

ST. JOSEPH, La. — Blaine Fletcher did all he could to help dig Tensas Academy out of a big early deficit, but it wasn’t enough as the Chiefs fell to the Amite School Center in MAIS District 6-A action Friday night.

Fletcher led all scorers with 24 points and Rush Capdepon chipped in with 10 points. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the first quarter was not so kind for the home team as they fell behind 17-9 at the end of that quarter and Amite School Center made sure the Chiefs were not able to muster up a rally. The Rebels were led by C. Planche with 23 points while T. Coleman and C. Choate had 16 points each.

Tensas Academy dropped to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in district play. The Chiefs play at Prairie View Academy on Wednesday, Dec. 28.
