Cathedral tops Centreville

WOODVILLE — D.J. Perry and Carl Hammitte had strong games for Cathedral as each of them had a double-double in leading the Green Wave past the Centreville Academy Tigers 62-48 Thursday afternoon at the WCCA Tournament.
Perry led Cathedral with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Hammitte finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. But it wasn’t until the fourth quarter in which Cathedral was able to pull away from Centreville. The Green Wave had a 25-22 lead at halftime and 40-36 at the end of the third quarter.
Led by Perry, Hammitte and Caleb Upton, who had 14 points, the Green Wave finally upped the lead to double digits and ended up outscoring the Tigers 22-12 in the fourth quarter. Justin Williams and Jake Darden led Centreville with 13 points apiece.
Cathedral (8-6) will take on Amite School Center today at 4:30 p.m. Centreville Academy (5-7) takes on host Wilkinson County Christian Academy today at 7:30 p.m.
Bowling Green 52,
Trinity Episcopal 40
BROOKHAVEN — Trinity Episcopal had no answer for Bowling Green School’s Mac McElveen, who finished with a game-high 21 points as the Buccaneers defeated the Saints Thursday night in the consolation game of the Brookhaven Academy Holiday Invitational.
Bowling Green’s defense did a good job of holding Trinity in check in the first half en route to taking a 22-13 halftime lead. The Buccaneers continued to put the pressure on the Saints in the third quarter and that helped them take a 41-23 lead into the fourth quarter. Patrick Roublow had 10 points while Austin Knight and Keith Duphrene added seven points each for Bowling Green.
Tanner Cage and Trae McKenzie each scored 10 points to lead Trinity (10-3). The Saints next play at Cathedral on Monday, Jan. 2 with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
Laurel Nighthawks 70, ACCS 23
MENDENHALL — Andrew Wiggins led four Laurel Nighthawks players in double figures with a game-high 20 points as they defeated the Adams County Christian School Rebels Thursday afternoon at the Simpson Academy Tournament.
Justin Beasley had 18 points, Johnathan Jones added 15 points and Josh Jones scored 10 points for the Laurel Nighthawks, who dominated ACCS in the first half on their way to a 36-8 halftime lead. The Rebels scored no more than eight points in any of the four quarters.
ACCS (1-13) was led by Ryan Strong with 11 points and Tanner Martin with six points. The Rebels return to action on Friday, Jan. 6 when they host Silliman Institute.
Franklin Parish 63, Vidalia 44
SICILY ISLAND — N. Carter led a balanced scoring attack for Franklin Parish with 14 points as the Patriots defeated the Vidalia Vikings Thursday night at the Sicily Island Tournament.
S. Sims and K. Grant scored 10 points apiece and S. Grant chipped in with nine points for Franklin Parish, which took a 13-3 lead over Vidalia and then added to its eight-point halftime lead during the second half.
Vidalia was led by Michael Whitley with 14 points and Isiah Thompson with 11 points. The Vikings (7-9) will take on Ferriday at 8:20 p.m. today.
Tensas 56, Ferriday 54
Sicily Island — Tensas High School needed a strong fourth quarter performance to come from behind to beat Ferriday 56-54 at the Siciliy Island Tournament Thursday night.
Ferriday led 42-35 going into the fourth quarter, but Tensas scored 21 points in the fourth frame to rally for the win. Tensas’ Andre Watkins led all scorers with 21 points.
Freddie Gray led the Trojans with 14 points and Brandon Scott added 12 in a losing effort.
The Trojans will face Vidalia tonight in touranment action.
Quitman 49, Monterey 43
JONESBORO, La. — The Quitman Wolverines held on to defeat the Monterey Wolves Thursday afternoon at the Jonesboro-Hodge Tournament. This was the only game for Monterey’s varsity boys team in this tournament. No other information on the game was available.
Monterey fell to 8-8 overall and next play at Calvin on Friday, Jan. 6.
The Trojans will face Vidalia tonight in touranment action.
