FERRIDAY — Town of Ferriday residents can quench their thirst with ease again after a precautionary boil-water advisory was lifted Wednesday.

The town was placed on advisory Dec. 26 after a break occurred on 10th Street in one of its major transmission lines.

Ferriday water plant operator Benton Finlay said the cause of the break was a combination of weather and the age of the pipes.

“Any kind of stress is tough on these old pipes,” Finlay said.

Water samples were returned to the town Wednesday at noon and were delayed because of the labs being closed for the holidays.

“Anytime we have loss of pressure in a line we have to make that boil advisory just to make sure no contaminations got in the line,” Finlay said.

Water service was turned off during the line break to make necessary repairs.

A sleeve had to be applied to the line to fix the leakage.

“That problem is fixed and it should prevent any other problems,” Finlay said.

The precautionary boil-water advisory is standard procedure for any time a water system loses pressure.

A line break in late November prompted a similar boil order.

In August and September, a boil-water order was placed after a filter at the water treatment facility suffered a failure.
