We are one community, it is true

Any good coach will tell you, teams win football championships, not individuals.
True to form, our world has a locker room full of sayings to help drive that point home:
There is no “I” in “TEAM.”
A successful team beats with one heart.
None of us is as smart as all of us.
Team means Together Everyone Achieves More!
Regardless of which euphemism or clever phrase strikes your fancy, much logic can be found in the simple idea of thinking and working like a team.
Tuesday, in its first official meeting, members of the Adams County Board of Supervisors made a small, but public commitment.
Board members adopted what may be the county board’s first official motto: We are one.
Certainly some critics will look and laugh. Others will say, “How corny!” or “That’s great, but it doesn’t change anything.”
Perhaps, but for four years, citizens laughed openly — often to prevent from crying — at how truly dysfunctional the former board was. Dirty looks, childish behavior and occasionally just plain mean behavior was the rule of the day.
That appears to have changed a little on Tuesday as the board members decided that it’s better to play together than fight. We welcome the catchphrase, particularly if it means the county leaders intend on keeping all discussions public and above board.
We’ve said it for years and years that despite our differences we are one community. We agree with the supervisors’ new motto.
Now it’s up to them to play as one. We have faith that they can do it successfully.
When they do, Adams County will earn a community championship.
