Prep boys roundups: Cathedral blows out St. Al

NATCHEZ — D.J. Perry had a game-high 23 points and Jamon Gray scored all his points from 3-point range as the Cathedral Green Wave rolled past the St. Aloysius Flashes 92-56 Friday night in MHSAA Region 7-1A action.
The 92 points is the most Cathedral has put up in a game this season. Longtime arch-rival St. Aloysius tried its best to stay with the Green Wave in the first half, yet the Flashes still found themselves trailing 47-35. The third quarter was all Cathedral, as the Green Wave exploded for 31 points while St. Aloysius managed to score all of six points.
Gray hit six shots from behind the 3-point line and finished with 18 points while Khalil Brice added 11 points. The Flashes were led by Elliot Bexley with 16 points and Kameron Reed with 15 points.
Cathedral (10-7, 1-1) next plays at Centreville Academy today.
Franklin County 37,
Wilkinson County 36
MEADVILLE — Led by K’Eran Mason and Antony Green, Franklin County overcame a bad first quarter and a 10-point deficit to defeat Wilkinson County Friday night in MHSAA Region 7-3A play.
The Bulldogs had a hard time getting a shot to fall and found themselves down 13-3 to the Wildcats after one quarter of play. But the Bulldogs cut into the Wildcats’ lead over the next two quarters and the two teams went into the fourth quarter tied at 29-all.
Franklin County then capped off the amazing come-from-behind victory by outscoring Wilkinson County 8-7 in the final quarter. Mason led the Bulldogs with 10 points and Green had eight points. The Wildcats were led by Marcus Robinson with nine points and Alanzae Staggers with eight points.
Franklin County (3-10, 1-1) plays at Prentiss next Tuesday. Wilkinson County (record not available) hosts Crystal Springs next Tuesday.
Silliman Institute 43, ACCS 25
NATCHEZ — The third quarter proved to be the downfall for Adams County Christian School as the Rebels were outscored by Silliman Institute 23-5 after a competitive first half as the Wildcats rolled to an 18-point victory Friday night.
Silliman was ahead of ACCS by five points, 15-10, at halftime before pulling away in the third quarter. Austin Gayle led the Wildcats with 15 points and Peyton Moddy added 10 points.
ACCS (1-15) was led by Christopher Guedon and Hayden Newman with six points apiece. The Rebels play at Trinity Episcopal in MAIS District 5-AA action next Tuesday.
Ferriday 64, Block 56
JONESVILLE — Ted’Rai Gullage scored 17 points to lead Ferriday, which jumped out to a big lead early and then held on for an eight-point win over Block Friday night.
The Trojans had their way with the Bears in the first quarter and opened up a 22-4 lead heading into the second quarter. But the Bears would not go away quietly. Led by Trevor Vault and Dorrian Bowman, Block cut into Ferriday’s lead over the next two quarters were down by just three points, 43-40, at the end of the third quarter.
But the Trojans put a halt to the Bears’ comeback attempt with a 21-16 advantage in the fourth quarter. Quavion Ellis scored nine points and Brandon Scott added eight points for Ferriday (7-6). Ken Colbert chipped in with 10 points for Block (3-10).
The Trojans play at Sterlington to open up District 2-2A action next Tuesday while the Bears play at LaSalle in their District 4-1A opener next Friday.
Amite School Center 42,
Tensas Academy 41
LIBERTY — Blaine Fletcher led Tensas Academy with 20 points, but he needed to score 22 points as the Chiefs fell to the Amite School Center Rebels by one point Friday night in MAIS District 6-A action.
Amite School Center led Tensas Academy 23-19 at halftime and 31-26 at the end of the third quarter. The Chiefs tried to come back in the fourth quarter only to come up a little bit short. They only managed to outscore the Rebels 15-11 in that final quarter.
Amite School Center was led by T. Coleman with a game-high 24 points.
Tensas Academy hosts Wilkinson County Christian Academy next Tuesday.
