NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School’s Brandis White is not only tough to guard when she has the ball, but she also has quick hands when she plays defense.

Silliman Institute found that out the hard way Friday night as White led all scorers with 18 points to go along with 10 steals as the Lady Rebels trounced the Lady Wildcats 59-35 for their 20th win of the season.

Tory Laird scored 15 points and Abby Givens had 10 points for ACCS, which dominated Silliman in the first half en route to a 33-16 halftime lead. Bradleigh Brignac was the only double-digit scorer for the Lady Wildcats as she ended up with 14 points.

Jefferson County 45, Crystal Springs 44

CRYSTAL SPRINGS — Jefferson County senior point guard Malikia Graves didn’t score many points against Crystal Springs in their MHSAA Region 7-3A game Friday night, but she came up big for the visiting Lady Tigers with the game on the line.

Graves made what head coach Flora McKnight said was “the biggest shot of her life” when she made a free throw with five seconds left to give Jefferson County a hard-fought victory over Crystal Springs.

The game was tied at 36-all after three quarters of play and the game appeared to be headed into overtime until Graves was fouled and she one of two free throws. Haley Turner led Jefferson County (7-7, 2-0) with 13 points while Brandy Buck scored 12 points and Keionne January added 10 points.

Jefferson County plays at Natchez High at 6 p.m. today.

St. Aloysius 70, Cathedral 57

NATCHEZ — Any chance that the Cathedral Lady Green Wave had of picking up their first win in MHSAA Region 7-1A ended in the third quarter when St. Aloysius scored 26 points in the third quarter as the Lady Flashes ended up with the victory Friday night.

Cathedral got off to a good start and led St. Aloysius 17-13 after one quarter of play. But the Lady Flashes started to take control of the game in the second quarter when they outscored the Lady Green Wave 16-11 for a 29-28 halftime lead. And then came the third quarter. Led by Allie Willis and Anne Thomas, St. Aloysius outscored Cathedral 26-17 in that quarter for a 55-45 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Willis led all scorers with 29 points while Thomas scored 20 pionts.

Cathedral (2-13, 0-2) was led by Ginny Daggett with 18 points and McKenzie Watts with 12 points. The Lady Green Wave play at Centreville Academy today.

Franklin County 62, Wilkinson County 58

MEADVILLE — Franklin County had enough balanced scoring to not only withstand and outstanding individual performance by Wilkinson County’s L. Palmer, but also the Lady Wildcats’ fourth-quarter rally as the Lady Bulldogs held on for a four-point win Friday night in MHSAA Region 7-3A action.

Kierra Collins led Franklin County (12-4, 2-0) with 17 points while Toni Robinson had 16 points. Briana Grayson and Latorya Griffin chipped in with nine points each. Palmer led Wilkinson County (9-7, 1-1) with a game-high 25 points. The Lady Wildcats were down 50-36 after three quarters of play before they attempted a furious comeback.

Unfortunately for the Lady Wildcats, they would come up just a few baskets short of puling off the upset. Wilkinson County hosts Crystal Springs next Tuesday while Franklin County plays at Prentiss next Tuesday.

Block 54, Ferriday 47

JONESVILLE — Led by Quinesha Branch and Tachundra Johnson, the Block Lady Bears rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat the Ferriday Lady Trojans Friday night.

Ferriday (3-10) was led by Sha’Keria Kelly with a game-high 25 points and TreNia Melancon had 10 points.

AMITE, La. — For much of the first three quarters, Centreville Academy played outstanding defense and took a 28-22 lead over Oak Forest Academy into the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, the Lady Tigers could not make enough stops in the final quarter to prevent Oak Forest from erasing that six-point deficit as the Lady Yellow Jackets rallied to beat Centreville in MAIS District 6-AA action Friday night.

Lindsey Neal led Oak Forest with 12 points while Courtney Ourso and Payton Simmons had seven points each. Katie Berry had a game-high 14 points and Tori Rouse added 11 points for Centreville (11-7, 0-3). The Lady tigers host Cathedral today.
