Sue Marsh Martin

BATON ROUGE — Sue Marsh Martin, 77, of Baton Rouge, formerly of Natchez, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Sue grew up in Washington and was a 1953 graduate of Natchez High School. She attended Mississippi State College for Women, graduating in 1957, with a degree in home economics. The following year she enrolled in Louisiana State University where her husband, E. Abner Martin, was doing graduate work of a Ph.D. in chemical engineering.

Sue received a master’s degree in early childhood education and taught at the LSU preschool while Abner completed his studies. The couple lived in England while Lt. Martin served in the U.S. Air Force and Sue did substitute teaching for the Department of Defense. They lived in Baton Rouge since 1966.

Mrs. Martin enjoyed quilting and made a number of beautiful quilts for her friends and members of her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed music and singing.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, Era Liddell Rawlings and James Darden Marsh.

Survivors include one son, Mark Martin; one daughter, Phyllis Buechler; four grandchildren, Lauren Kyle, Franklin Kyle IV, Luke Martin and Ella Martin; one sister, Sylvia Marsh Stevens; and three nieces, Liddell Hobin, Lori Stevens and Lisa Baker.

The family extends thanks the wonderful caregivers at Ollie Steele Burden Manor for taking care of her over the past years.

Sue donated her body to science so that others may benefit from her passing.
