BEN HILLYER/THE NATCHEZ DEMOCRAT — Emergency crews and Louisiana State Troopers attend to the scene of a wreck in a field off of Logan Sewell Road Monday evening.

VIDALIA — At least six police cars, two ambulances and other emergency vehicles blocked off Louisiana 3180 from traffic Monday as they investigated an apparently fatal one-car accident near the Mobil station off of Carter Street at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The victim, as identified by family and friends who were called to the scene after the accident, was Carolyn Williams, a mother of six who was in her 40s.

The car was flipped over in a field near the highway.

A group of more than 10 friends and family, including Williams’ son, stood by as law enforcement and emergency personnel were on the scene.

Elaine Brown said her mother helped raise Williams at her house since Williams was 14 years old.

Demetrice Hawkins, who also grew up with Williams, said she had sympathy for Williams’ mother and for her children.

“It’s hard, but the Lord doesn’t do anything wrong,” Hawkins said.
