NATCHEZ — The Adams County Sheriff’s Office has dropped charges against one of the suspects arrested in connection with the attempted armed robbery and shooting on Steam Plant Road Friday night.
Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said his office released Michael Lavelle Carter, 24, of 56 1/2 Oak St., Natchez, from custody Wednesday.
Carter was charged with acting in concert with armed robbery and aggravated assault in connection with the robbery.
The robbery victim, Jearmie O’Neal, reported he and his cousin were at O’Neal’s residence on Steam Plant Road when two men pulled up in a car, got out and began talking to O’Neal and his cousin. O’Neal reportedly told the men to leave his property.
Mayfield said his office originally believed that sometime later, Reginald Julius Primm and Carter allegedly returned and tried to rob O’Neal at gunpoint while O’Neal and his cousin were sitting in O’Neal’s car in front of his house.
O’Neal reportedly attempted to take the gun away from Primm while it was pointed at his head when the gun fired and two bullets struck O’Neal in his leg.
Mayfield said based on further testimony of O’Neal, his office does not believe Carter was with Primm when Primm allegedly returned to O’Neal’s residence and robbed and assaulted O’Neal.
Primm was charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault after turning himself in Monday.
