SICILY ISLAND — Services for Mildred Bynum Edmonds, 85, of Sicily Island, who died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her loving family, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Sicily Island with the Rev. Howard Hudson officiating.

Burial will follow at Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Edmonds was born July 22, 1926, in Mississippi, the daughter of John Bynum and Flora McIver Bynum. She was a graduate of Prentiss High School and received her teaching degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Sicily Island.

Mildred came to Sicily Island in 1948, as a beginning teacher. She met and married Bruce A. Edmonds, who preceded her in death in 2002.

She retired from the Catahoula Parish School Board where she was a teacher and longtime bookkeeper and secretary. She was the executive secretary and right-hand to a number of the parish superintendents.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jimmy Bynum; and one sister, Lois Livingston.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Steele Edmonds of Fairhope, Ala., and Deborah Borquist of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; three sons, David Edmonds and wife, Shelley, of Birmingham, Ala., John Edmonds and wife, Sherry, of Shreveport, La., and Al Edmonds and wife, Candy, of Sicily Island; seven loving grandchildren, Mikey Brazell, Jerrad Edmonds, Katy Edmonds, Matthew Edmonds, Adam Edmonds, Allye Brazell and Jay Edmonds; one great-granddaughter, Madison Edmonds; and one sister, Louise Luper of Ridgeland.

Pallbearers will be John Rife and grandsons, Mikey Brazell, Jerrad Edmonds, Matthew Edmonds, Adam Edmonds and Jay Edmonds.

The family thanks longtime family doctor and favorite student, Dr. Billy Coney and her two caretakers, Bonnie Phillips and Betty Wisner, for their devotion and love. They also thank Hospice TLC of Winnsboro for their care during her last days.
