HAZLEHURST — Jarnell Anderson led Jefferson County with 18 points and Nicholas Brown had 17 points as the Tigers held on for a seven-point win over the Hazlehurst Indians in MHSAA Region 7-3A action Friday night.
Jefferson County looked like it was on its way to blowing out Hazlehurst after a strong first half resulted in the Tigers having a 39-23 halftime lead. But the Indians would not go away quietly after outscoring the Tigers 25-14 in the third quarter to make it a 53-48 game at the end of the quarter. However, Jefferson County did just enough to hold off Hazlehurst thanks to a 20-18 advantage in the fourth quarter. The Tigers improved to 6-2 in Region 7-3A and play at Wilkinson County next Tuesday night.
West Lincoln girls 48,
Cathedral 24
NATCHEZ — Katie Hester and Beth Montgomery scored 15 points each as the West Lincoln Lady Bears doubled up the Cathedral Lady Green Wave Friday night in MHSAA Region 7-1A play.
West Lincoln held Cathedral to just two points in the first quarter and then took a 23-11 lead into halftime. The Lady Green Wave (2-20, 0-8) was led by Ginny Daggett with 13 points. Cathedral next plays at Piney Woods Tuesday night.
Caldwell Parish boys 35,
Vidalia 27
VIDALIA — Despite a valiant effort on both ends of the court in the third quarter, the Vidalia Vikings were unable to overcome a poor-shooting first half and lost to the Caldwell Parish Spartans in an LHSAA District 3-3A game Friday night.
Vidalia trailed Caldwell Parish 25-9 at halftime. But in the third quarter, the Vikings turned up the defensive pressure and outscored the Spartans 12-2 to trail by six points, 27-21 at the end of the quarter. Michael Whitley led Vidalia (8-17, 1-5) with 10 points. The Vikings host Jena next Tuesday night.
Franklin County girls 49, Prentiss 34
MEADVILLE — Despite having won less than a handful of games this season, Prentiss did what very few teams have been able to do against Franklin County — keep the game close for three quarters.
However, any thoughts of the visiting Lady Bulldogs pulling off a big upset ended when the host Lady Bulldogs outscored them 17-8 in the fourth quarter for the 15-point win. Briana Grayson and Jamechia Day scored eight points each to lead Franklin County (18-4, 8-0), which hosts Hazlehurst Tuesday night.
Forest Hill boys 59,
Natchez High 54
NATCHEZ — Natchez High outscored Forest Hill 37-25 over the span of the second and third quarters to give the Bulldogs a seven-point lead. The problem was the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs were, once again, unable to hold a lead as the Patriots rallied for the win in MHSAA Region 6-6A play Friday night.
Natchez High took a 46-39 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs could not keep the momentum going that they built during the middle two quarters. Forest Hill outscored Natchez High 20-8 in the final quarter for the comeback victory. Dearius Griffin led the Bulldogs with 16 points and Derrian Johnson had 12 points. Natchez High (9-14, 0-6) hosts Brookhaven Tuesday night.
Caldwell Parish girls 43,
Vidalia 16
VIDALIA — Even though Caldwell Parish completely dominated Vidalia in the first three quarters of its 27-point win in LHSAA District 3-3A action Friday night, no one for the Lady Spartans scored in double figures.

Crystal Springs boys 70, Wilkinson County 52
CRYSTAL SPRINGS — Adarius Miles scored 21 points and Jerekius Davis had 18 points as the Crystal Springs Tigers jumped out to a 20-4 lead and never looked back in their win over the Wilkinson County Wildcats in MHSAA Region 7-3A action Friday night.
Crystal Springs led Wilkinson County 41-20 at halftime and didn’t allow the Wildcats to put much of a dent in the lead in the second half. Devin Voorhies finished with 15 points and Phillip Fountain added 14 points for Wilkinson County, which hosts Jefferson County Tuesday night.
