Trinity boys win road scoring fest

NATCHEZ —The Trinity Episcopal boys’ basketball team had little trouble finding points Monday night in its road contest with CENLA Christian Academy, but the Lions were also able to score with ease in the contest to create a nail-biting, overtime finish.

The two teams battled to a 79-79 tie after regulation, but Trinity was able to sink a couple more shots than CENLA in overtime to win the game 90-85,

Trinity’s Tanner Cage led all scorers with 26 points on the night. Jake Winston added 16 points, Sky Logan scored 14 and Tip McKenzie scored 12 points in his first game back from injury.

Demetrice Birdlong scored 19 points to lead CENLA.

Trinity scored 40 points in the first half of the game to take a 40-32 lead into the break.

The Saints led 60-53 at the end of the third quarter, before CENLA scored 26 points in the fourth period to tie the game.

The win pushed Trinity’s record to 19-8 overall on the season. The Saints will hit the road again tonight to face Oak Forest.

CENLA girls 41, Trinity 34

Abbey Ashmore netted 19 points for the Trinity Episcopal girls’ team Monday night at CENLA Academy, but Ashmore’s performance was not enough to lead Trinity to the win.

CENLA got 14 points from Morgan Wampler and 12 points from Kelsey Fletcher to push past Trinity 41-34.

Rosie Woods scored eight points for the Lady Saints, who fell to 8-17 on the season.

Rachel House and Murphy Aldridge both scored three points a piece for Trinity.

The Lady Saints will face Oak Forest tonight.
