Jewel “JK” Dykes

RIDGELAND — Services for Jewel “JK” Dykes, 89, of Jackson and formerly of Natchez, who died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lakewood Funeral Home chapel.
Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Dykes was a longtime resident of Jackson and a former resident of Natchez. He served our country in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a faithful member of Briarwood Drive Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities, including deacon, Sunday school teacher and as a member of the finance committee. He loved the Lord and his church family.
Dykes was employed with National Life and Accident Company in Natchez before he was transferred to Corr Williams Tobacco Company in Jackson, where he retired as sales manager.
He enjoyed his work, traveling, playing cards and board games. He was an avid Ole Miss fan, but his favorite pastime was being with his grandchildren, who he loved dearly.
Dykes was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Nell Dykes, and his parents, Louis and Helen May Dykes.
Survivors include Kenny Dykes and wife Marilyn of Baton Rouge, Sandra Youngblood and husband Kenneth of Newport, Ark; one brother, Don Dykes of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Nell Carpenter of Slaughter, La.; four grandchildren, Krista Franks, Chip Youngblood, Dallas Dykes, Lindsey Moore; eight great-grandchildren; a very special friend, Betty Hardy of Brandon; and a host of friends at Chateau Ridgeland Retirement Home.
