NATCHEZ — Adams County’s Democratic party will have precinct caucuses, the first step in the election of state and national party leaders, Saturday.
Adams County Democratic Executive Committee Treasurer Wilbur Johnson Sr. said all party members need to do to participate is show up at the precinct where they vote. Any party member may participate in the precinct caucuses.
At the caucuses, party members will elect delegates to attend the county convention. Delegates are chosen from a pool of those who have noted their willingness to represent each precinct. The county convention will in turn elect the county party leaders for the next four years, the executive committee.
“We will issue credentials to the delegates and we will discuss issues like (party) platform issues,” Johnson said.
Those who attend the county convention will also choose the delegates for the congressional and state conventions. The state convention will elect state executive committee members and will choose delegates to the Democratic National Committee. State executive committee members will serve for the next four years.
The caucuses begin at 10 a.m.
