February events make week special

The color palette will soon begin changing here in the Miss-Lou. As February gives way to March in the coming weeks, we’ll say goodbye to the pinks and reds of Valentine’s Day and the purples, greens and yellows of Mardi Gras.
But with two major holidays behind us, we’ll welcome a whole world of new colors as Spring Pilgrimage gears up.
But before we look too far into the future, let’s recap the last week, focusing on the good news for our community.
• Area schools celebrated Black History Month last week with special programs and projects. Natchez High School invited area civil rights leaders to talk with students, sharing their living history stories of the community.
• Monterey School senior Kirsten Elizabeth Blake has claimed the title of Concordia Parish Student of the Year for her school involvement and academic successes. Blake will now compete for the state title. We wish her lots of luck!
• Natchez and Concordia Parish officials both reported that discussions with their respective national delegations in Washington, D.C., went well. Area officials are hopeful the trip will pay off when federal money begins trickling into local projects.
Mild temperatures have graced us all winter long, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all still look forward to a great spring to come.
