KATY, Texas — Maggie Jewel Davis, 82, of Weston Lakes, Texas, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at the home of her daughter. She is now free of pain and in the loving arms of her God.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at Guardian Angel Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Schmidt Funeral Home in Katy, Texas.
Jewel was born June 29, 1929, in Scott County, the daughter of Ollie B. Calhoun and Myrtle Mae McPherson.
Jewel and her husband, Fred, made their home in Natchez. They moved to Weston Lakes in 2002 to be near their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. On the number of visits to Mississippi during holidays or summers, she made certain that she had prepared the favorite food for each of her Texas family members. She was a kind and thoughtful neighbor to everyone.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Fred Arnold Davis; her father, who died when she was 12; her mother, Myrtle McPherson Cannon; her stepfather, who she dearly loved, Reagan Cecil Cannon; and one son-in-law, Frank Percy Lathrop.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Davis Schellhase and husband, William P. Schellhase, DDS, of Weston Lake; three grandchildren, Melanie Lathrop Peralta and husband, John A. Peralta, of Katy, Frank Davis Lathrop of Houston, Texas and Colin Andrew Lathrop, DDS, and wife, Raven, of The Woodlands, Texas; and two great-granddaughters, Reagan Alexandra Hansen of Katy and Parker Leslie Lathrop of The Woodlands.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Cliff Aldrich, Bob Machen, Rod Kitzmiller, Augie Erfurth, Tommy Hammermiller and Bob Pfaffenberger.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38102-1905.
