Prep roundups: Trinity, WCCA eliminated

GRENADA — Trinity Episcopal fell behind early, took a two-point lead in the third quarter but ultimately lost to Marshall Academy 47-44 in the first round of the MAIS Class A state tournament at Kirk Academy Wednesday.

Trinity’s Tanner Cage led in scoring with 11 points, while Trae McKenzie finished with 10 points. Jake Winston and Tip McKenzie both had eight points.

Marshall Academy jumped out to a 17-5 lead in the first quarter, but Trinity outscored Marshall 15-7 in the second quarter to make it 24-20 Marshall at intermission. Trinity took a two-point lead during the third period, but Marshall Academy took the lead right back and led for the rest of the game.

Dakota Dailey tallied 12 points for Marshall. Kevin Fitzpatrick totaled 11 points.

Trinity finished its season with a 23-12 record.

MARKS — An outstanding season for Wilkinson County Christian Academy came to an end Wednesday afternoon as the Rams fell to the North Central State champion Tri-County Academy Rebels in the quarterfinals of the MAIS Class A State Tournament at Delta Academy.

WCCA won the District 6-A Tournament championship and finished runner-up at the Class A South State Tournament. The Rams finished with a record of 21-6.
