NATCHEZ — Six local high school seniors will be awarded scholarship money tonight at the Miss-Lou Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame’s annual banquet at the Eola Hotel at 7.
Adams County Christian School’s Kevin Campbell, Cathedral High School’s Caleb Upton, Ferriday High School’s Richard Jefferson, Natchez High School’s Levarious Dorsey, Trinity Episcopal’s Joseph McClatchy and Vidalia High School’s Thao Nguyen will all be honored at tonight’s banquet.
The banquet awards area prep football players who excel academically with scholarship money for college. Their coaches nominate the athletes, and first-place, second-place and third-place scholarships are given, with the three remaining athletes receiving the rest of the allotted funds.
Teresa Busby, vice president of Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Natchez campus, and her committee select the winners based on academic performance, athletic achievement and extra curricular activities.
The funds are raised by the annual Joe Fortunato Celebrity Golf Classic, with this year’s classic taking place May 5. Southeastern Louisiana head football coach Ron Roberts will be this year’s featured guest speaker, with former South-Natchez High School head football coach Ed Reed being recognized as an honored Contributor to Amateur Football.
Judge John Hudson will be given the Distinguished American Award.
