CROSBY — Services for Oscar Hughes, 92, of Crosby, who died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Crosby Union Baptist Church in Crosby with the Rev. Robert L. Hawkins officiating.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Gloster under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.
Mr. Hughes was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Norwood, La., the son of Al J. and Lovie Hughes. He attended school in Norwood and New Orleans. He worked in the lumber mills.
He was a member of Crosby Union Baptist Church and served as a deacon, secretary and superintendent of the Sunday school.
Mr. Hughes was a member of the NAACP, Wilkinson County School Board of Education, Democratic Caucus for Wilkinson County and Wilkinson County city alderman of Crosby. Other interests included the ministers conference, working in the church and the community.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertyle Hughes; his parents; one brother, Charles Hughes; and one sister, Julia Ellen Brown.
Survivors include one daughter, Andres J. Hughes Montgomery.
Pallbearers will be David Alexander, Robert Murray, James Bateaste, James Hall and William Hall.
