Cathedral wins two games at tournament

SALEM — The Cathedral School sotball team won its first two games of the season Saturday in the Classic Tournament in Salem.
The Lady Green Wave defeated West Marion 5-1 and then crushed Tylertown 16-0.
Mollie Devening won both games in the circle for the Lady Green Wave, and Ginny Daggett also had a triple in each of the two contests.
Cathedral jumped on top of West Marion with four runs in the first inning and cruised to the win. Tori Edwards hit a solo home run in the game for Cathedral.
Cathedral also scored four runs in the first inning against Tylertown, but the Lady Green Wave was able to sustain the offense for the rest of the game and piled up five runs in the second inning, one in the third and six in the fourth to get the 16-run win.
Beth Fortenbery had three hits in the game for Cathedral. Kimble Devening, Mollie Devening and Payton Monticello had two hits each.
Cathedral moved to 2-0 with the wins and will play again Monday at Wesson.
