VICKSBURG — Jake Brumfield pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 batters as the Adams County Christian School Rebels defeated the Porter’s Chapel Academy Eagles 12-0 in only four innings Monday afternoon.

ACCS gave all the run support Brumfield really needed in the top of the first inning when the Rebels scored one run. They put the game out of reach by scoring five runs in the top of the second inning and then put the mercy rule in effect with six runs in the top of the third.

Even though the Rebels had just seven hits, they took advantage of four Porter’s Chapel errors. Chris Carrell and Johnny Smith each had a double with Carrell going 2-for-3. Christopher Perry went 2-for-2.

ACCS improved to 6-2 overall and next plays at River Oaks Saturday at 2 p.m.

Vidalia 15, Harrisonburg 1

VIDALIA — Roper Craft hit a grand slam home run during Vidalia’s 12-run rally in the bottom of the second inning as the Vikings took care of the Harrisonburg Bulldogs in five innings Monday afternoon.

Craft finished the game going 3-for-3 at the plate. Matt Souderes had a pair of doubles and went 3-for-4 while Nate Bozeman and Levi Brown each were 2-for-3. The Vikings’ big second inning broke a 1-1 tie and Harrisonburg was never able to recover. Vidalia scored its final two runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Vidalia improved to 4-1 overall. The Vikings play host to Cathedral today with the junior varsity game at 4 p.m. and the varsity game at 6 p.m.

Peabody 11, Block 10

JONESVILLE — The Peabody Warhorses jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two and a half innings only to hold off three separate rally attempts by Block to defeat the Bears in a high-scoring game Monday night.

“It was back and forth. It was a good game. We just had too many errors,” Block head coach Stevie McCarthy said.

Block scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to make it a 4-3 game. Peabody led 6-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, only to leave that inning trailing 7-6 after another three-run rally by the Bears. The Warhorses responded with a four-run rally in the top of the sixth to go ahead 10-7 and appeared to be in control after scoring once in the top of the seventh for an 11-7 lead.

But the Bears would not go away quietly as they scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to make a one-run game. Unfortunately, that would be as close as they would get.

D.J. Celestine was the winning pitcher after going four innings. Dillon Mayo had an up-and-down five innings and was charged with the loss. Mayo gave up seven runs on just one hit but also eight walks and one hit batsman while striking out 12.

Block (3-4) plays at Peabody today with the JV game at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity game at 5 p.m.
