NATCHEZ — Hunter Foster will go from being a Wolf to being a Bear.

The former Cathedral High School soccer standout has spent the last few seasons playing for the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolfpack men’s soccer team. Starting his junior year, however, he will be part of the Central Arkansas Bears men’s soccer team.

“I sent my video in last week, and I guess they liked what they saw,” Foster said. “Coach Ross Duncan called me and said I made the team, and they said they’d love to work with me.”

Foster spent his freshman and sophomore seasons playing forward and midfielder for the Wolfpack, positions that allowed him the opportunity to score points for his team.

“I enjoy it. The responsibility of being up front and scoring goals for the team is something I thrive in,” Foster said. “I like being able to provide for the team and help get wins.”

But Foster said he’s not sure if he’ll still be a forward or midfielder when he arrives in Conway, Ark.

“They want to wait to see me in live play, then they’ll determine what position I’ll play,” Foster said. “I’m sure they have an idea from the videos I’ve sent.”

Foster said he expects to redshirt his junior year at Central Arkansas, which would give him three years to play two.

“I’m fine with that,” Foster said. “That’s actually what I would prefer. That way, I can train and get to a better skill level than I’m at right now.”

As for Central Arkansas’ soccer program itself, Foster said the Bears will be playing against some good competition.

“I know it’s a decent soccer program, and they recently got a new head coach (Duncan),” Foster said. “It’s a D-1 school, and they play against some of the better teams in the country in that division.”

Foster also said he’s looking forward to working with Duncan the next few seasons.

“He’s a great guy. He seems enthused to work with me and help me train to get more out of the D-1 level,” Foster said.

Foster said he has enjoyed his time at Co-Lin, especially since the Wolfpack also plays against some good competition.

“It was a good experience,” Foster said. “The play of those guys is a lot faster. They’re super-organized, and they know what they’re doing. Those teams can see the field really well.”

Even though he currently lives in Wesson during the school year, Foster said he tries to make time to see his former Green Wave teammates play whenever he can.

“I’m friends with (assistant) coach Rick Simons, and I still follow them for the most part,” Foster said. “They didn’t have too great a season, but they’re young, and Cathedral has a really good soccer program.”

Foster is the son of Jody and Beth Foster.
