NATCHEZ — Heavy rain and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and Friday morning forced many local and area high school baseball and softball games scheduled for Friday to be either rescheduled or canceled.
Cathedral’s junior varsity and varsity games at Chester Willis Field against Wilkinson County Christian Academy were canceled, and Green Wave head coach Craig Beesley said those games may or may not be rescheduled.
Cathedral will take on Porter’s Chapel Academy today. However, Beesley said because of a scheduling conflict the JV and varsity games between the Green Wave and the Eagles will take place at Porter’s Chapel in Vicksburg. The JV games will start at 1 p.m. and will be followed by the varsity game at 3 p.m.
Natchez High’s JV and varsity games at MHSAA Region 6-6A opponent Terry have also been a victim of the bad weather. Those games will take place on Monday, April 9 with the JV game at 4 p.m. and the varsity game at 6 p.m.
Natchez High head coach Skip Golding said the Bulldogs will still participate in the Port Gibson Tournament today and will take on a pair of teams from Jackson — Lanier at 2:30 p.m. and Wingfield at 4:30 p.m.
Natchez High School track coach Larry Wesley said Friday afternoon’s track invitational was canceled. Cathedral High School, Jefferson County High School, Wilkinson County High School and Ferriday High School were scheduled to participate in the meet.
Cathedral High School
Cathedral’s fast-pitch softball junior varsity and varsity home games against McComb were rained out. Lady Green Wave head coach Gary Blackwell said the games will most likely not be rescheduled.
The inclement weather also forced some rescheduling of the Warren Central Tournament that both Cathedral and Natchez High will be playing in today. Cathedral was supposed to play three games, but now it will have just two games — first against Terry at 3:45 p.m. and then against host Warren Central at 5:45 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs will take on St. Joe, Greenville at 11:30 a.m. and St. Aloysius at 4:30 p.m.
Vidalia High School
The Vikings’ scheduled games for Friday at the Franklin Parish Tournament were postponed to today, head coach Kale Davis said.
Vidalia will open with Franklin Parish High School at 9:30 a.m., then play Delhi Charter and Bolton high schools following the first game.
Franklin County
Franklin County’s baseball teams were scheduled to host Hazlehurst in the Bulldogs’ Region 7-3A opener, but the JV and varsity games were rained out and will be played at a later date to be determined. Franklin County will still play at Lawrence County today with the JV game at 11 a.m. and the varsity game at 1 p.m.
Franklin County’s junior varsity and varsity doubleheader fast-pitch softball games at Brookhaven were also done in by the weather and will now take place on Tuesday, April 17. However, there will be no JV game and the varsity games will begin at 5 and 6:30 p.m.
Franklin County head coach Dana Smith also made some other changes to the schedule. The Lady Bulldogs will not take on Prentiss on Monday, March 19 and Thursday, April 5. Instead, those two teams will face off in a varsity doubleheader at Franklin County on Monday, April 16 at 5:30 and 7 p.m.
Also, they will host Collins for a varsity doubleheader on Thursday, March 29 at 5:30 and 7 p.m. The games against Prentiss and Collins are MHSAA Region 7-3A games.
