NATCHEZ — An Adams County man is behind bars after allegedly robbing a convenience store Sunday morning.

Natchez Interim Police Chief Danny White said the police responded to a call at 6:29 a.m. that the Gaslane No. 12 at 200 U.S. 61 South had been robbed.

A man wearing a blue jacket, light blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a blue toboggan on his head entered the store with a long gun — later determined to be a .410 shotgun — and demanded cash from the employee there, White said.

After taking $170, the suspect left the store out of a rear entrance and fled the scene in a silver Mazda pickup truck, White said.

When responding to the robbery, police sealed off the back roads out of town, and White said the officer at the corner of Lower Woodville Road and Col. John Pitchford Parkway was able to intercept the truck. The description the victims were able to give of the robber included the fact that he had a star tattoo on his left hand, and the driver of the truck had such a tattoo, White said.

John Randell McClellan, 19, 78 Deer Lake Road, was arrested and charged with the robbery.

“He admitted he robbed the place and told them where he hid the gun, which we were able to get,” White said.

McClellan was detained without bond Sunday.
