Vidalia falls to Buckeye, Block edges Montgomery in softball

DEVILLE, La. — The Vidalia Lady Vikings ran into a buzzsaw Thursday afternoon as they were shut out by the Buckeye Lady Panthers, the No. 1 team in Class 3A, 16-0 in three innings in an LHSAA District 3-3A game.
After a scoreless first inning, Buckeye (12-1, 4-0) scored 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning and ended the game early with six runs in the bottom of the third. The Lady Panthers finished with 17.
Laura Perilloux was charged with the loss after giving up 10 runs on 13 hits in two innings. Taylor Rogers allowed six runs (none earned) on four hits in one-third of an inning.
Vidalia (9-7, 1-3) will take on LaSalle at 3 p.m. today at the Jena Tournament. On Saturday, the Lady Vikings face Block at 9 a.m. and Franklin Parish at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Block 3, Montgomery 2
MONTGOMERY, La. — After allowing one run in each of the first two innings, Kayla Smith pitched five consecutive scoreless innings as the Block Lady Bears rallied to defeat the Montgomery Lady Tigers in their LHSAA District 4-1A opener.
Smith struck out seven batters, but was not in line for the win until Block scored three runs in the top of the third inning. The Lady Bears improved to 11-3 overall and 1-0 in district play.
Block will take on Franklin Parish at 5:30 p.m. today and Jena at 7 p.m. today at the Jena Tournament. On Saturday at that tournament, the Lady Bears go up against Vidalia at 9 a.m.
