VIDALIA — Services for Eddie L. Bowman, 63, of Alexandria, Va., who died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Concordia Park, in Vidalia.
Burial will follow at the Vidalia Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mr. Bowman born July 15, 1948, in Vidalia, the son of John and Illinois Bowman. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring from the U.S. Army. He continued to serve his country as a contractor for 23 years, supporting the U.S. Army Food Service Operations.
Eddie had a love for sports like no other. He could tell all the statistics related to basketball, football, or boxing, whether they were for professional, college or high school teams. He played baseball throughout his school year as a pitcher for Concord High School. He continued to pursue sports in adult life while in the military.
He joined Zion Baptist Church in June of 1968, with his wife in Vidalia and continued to serve the Lord, attending Ft. Belvoir Chapel in Ft. Belvoir, Va.
Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by two sons, David and Robert Bowman; his parents; and six siblings, Lula, Bennie, John, Willie, Parnell and Roy James Bowman.
Survivors include his loving wife, WillieDell Clay Bowman; and five siblings, Roosevelt Bowman of Hughes, Texas, Leonard Bowman and Don Bowman, both of Vidalia, Hattie March of Chicago and Sarah Hamilton of Los Angeles.
