Baseball roundup: Centreville sweeps Buccaneers

CENTREVILLE — Led by the pitching of Cliff Hurst and Corey Gaulden, the Centreville Academy Tigers defeated the Bowling Green School Buccaneers 9-1 in Game 1 and 12-1 in five innings in Game 2 Friday.

Hurst pitched five innings in the first MAIS District 6-AA game and allowed one run on one hit, struck out 11 batters, and helped his cause by going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and three runs batted in.

Randy Bell pitched the final two innings and struck out three batters. Hunter Devall was 2-for-3 with a double while Hunter Travis and Ethan Noland each went 2-for-4.

In the second game, Gaulden went four innings and gave up one run on three hits with six strikeouts. Ethan Noland was 2-for-2 with a double and Gage Chandler also went 2-for-3.

Centreville Academy (14-0, 6-0) hosts Brookhaven Academy today with the JV game at 1 p.m. and the varsity game at 3 p.m.
