Hopefully you enjoyed some time outdoors this weekend; it was a beautiful one.

With spring temperatures, blooms and blue skies upon us, we can’t help but smile as we look out upon the Miss-Lou. Our community truly shines this time of year.

Last week was a fun one, with a popular annual event and plenty of good news. Let’s review:

• The 24th annual Natchez Powwow entertained locals and visitors Saturday and Sunday at the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians. This festival exposes us all to an important part of our heritage, gets us outside with friends and is just plain fun.

Thanks to those who work so hard to make the powwow possible.

• The second week of Spring Pilgrimage brought money-bearing tourists with a few interesting stories of their own. Ruth Ellen Calhoun at Elgin had the opportunity to meet two descendants of a slave who once served at the plantation house. Linking history to the present was as fun for Calhoun as it was for the guests.

• Cal Wilkerson, 17, spent a week earlier this month getting to know Washington, D.C., and his country’s history. The Wilkinson County Christian Academy student was one of two Mississippi students chosen for U.S. Senate Youth Program. Congratulations Cal.

If you’ve yet to enjoy spring in Natchez, don’t let another week pass you by! Get out and get going; there’s plenty to do here.
