Baseball roundup: Tensas Academy defeats WCCA 7-1

WOODVILLE — After getting off to an 0-7 start to the 2012 season, Tensas Academy is now in the hunt for a playoff spot after defeating Wilkinson County Christian Academy 7-1 Thursday afternoon.
David Leake came on in relief and pitched four strong innings to pick up the win. Tensas Academy improved to 2-8 overall and, more importantly, 2-1 in MAIS District 6-A. The Chiefs next play at Tallulah Academy at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
WCCA (2-8. 1-2) plays host to Centreville Academy on Monday with the junior varsity game at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
Monterey 12, Rapides 0
MONTEREY — Hayden Cassels pitched a complete-game shutout as Monterey needed just five innings to take care of Rapides Thursday afternoon for their first LHSAA District 4-B win of the season.
With the win, Monterey improved to 9-6 overall and 1-2 in district play. The Wolves host Montgomery on Saturday with the junior varsity game at 11 a.m. and the varsity game at 1 p.m.
LaSalle-Block baseball,
softball games moved to Friday
JONESVILLE — Block’s varsity home baseball and softball games against LHSAA District 4-1A opponent LaSalle High School did not take place on Thursday due to the recent death of a LaSalle High School student.
Both the baseball and softball games will take place today at Block with both games beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Vidalia-Buckeye varsity game postponed
BUCKEYE, La. — Vidalia’s varsity game Thursday afternoon against LHSAA District 3-3A opponent Buckeye was rained out.
The varsity game between the Vikings and the Panthers will take place at 4 p.m. today at Buckeye.
